This past Monday straight after Raw, Stone Cold Steve Austin interviewed none-other than the WWE Chairman himself, Vince McMahon. The Texas Rattlesnake didn't hold back on any questions, from CM Punk to the Streak and beyond.
Austin always brings out the tough questions on his pod-casts so we knew that he was going to ask Vince some pretty interesting questions on this one. It was broadcasted live on the WWE Network so we knew that nothing was taken out or edited at all on this interview.
Austin said about how Raw being three hours has it's advantages and disadvantages. Austin said how with the show being three hours there should be more wrestling and less segments. He even stated how he thinks that the first segment of each Raw every week takes to long and doesn't get you hooked onto the show. Vince would respond saying how it helps build the story lines and that it needs to get the audience to care about what the outcome will be.
I agree with both guys points there. I do agree with Austin that we need to see more wrestling on Raw and less segments. The opening segments can sometimes drag e.g. this weeks Raw lasted over twenty minutes. Some segments shouldn't drag on to much as it does get repetitive after a while. However I do agree with Vince on how the opening segments need a bit of time so they can hype the shows main-event and keep the storyline fresh. I think Raw should remain with an opening segment most weeks but don't have it drag on to much.
Austin would go on to ask what Vince wants to see in a wrestler. Vince commented saying 'someone who has charisma, who can learn, who has skills and having passion for the business. Vince would say how having those tools would help get the audience to make them a star. Names like Bray Wyatt, Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns are perfect examples by what Vince means.
An interesting topic Austin asked Vince about was on his thoughts on Cesaro. Vince would say 'he is not connecting with his charisma and verbal skills right now'. He also pointed out how 'the audience needs to care about him'. He even stated how he isn't sure how to fix it and book him appropriately right now.
I have to say that I don't agree with Vince here very much. I'll admit that Cesaro needs to improve with his mic skills, but everything else I think is fine. Cesaro gets huge ovations most weeks at most shows. The Cesaro Swing gets the audience caring about him and he connects with them very well with that signature move. Cesaro should turn face and then Vince will see how much the fans care about him.
Austin would of course bring up the one name which we were all hoping to hear about, CM Punk. Vince apologised about how Punk got his severance papers on his wedding day and how it was just a coincidence. Vince went on to say how he hopes that they will be able to get back together one day. He said he is open to work with him again which may very well shock some people. He even admitted that he didn't listen to Colt Cabanas pod-cast in which Punk explained why he left the WWE. Lack of communication between Punk and WWE is still going on Vince would say.
I was shocked that Vince said that he would work with Punk again. Vince must know that if that day ever came and he turned down the offer to do so, he would regret it. If Punk ever came back it would be a big draw for the WWE. Ratings would go flying through the roof and it would be an extremely controversial time in the WWE.
Austin brought up about The Undertakes WrestleMania streak ending. Vince said how he made the decision himself and that The Undertaker was unselfish about the decision. He said how 'no one wants to give more than The Undertaker.' He continued saying who else could he work with and give back in the biggest possible way to help someone be a star? Vince said how that there was nobody on the roster aside from Brock Lesnar. It was a huge shock to everybody and that Brock cannot be hotter than right now.
I understand how Vince wanted to shock everybody, I mean nobody expected the streak to end this year to Brock at all. However I still feel that Vince made a mistake, I feel that the streak should have never been broke. I feel that Brock was already a big enough star and that ending the streak was something which shouldn't have been ended by Brock at all.
Vince said that Macho Man would 'definitely' be going into the Hall Of Fame. He said soon, but maybe not this year.
Austin asked about Sting. Vince thought he made a hell of impression. It interested me how he said that his character is something that you don't need to see a lot. And that he wouldn't be surprised if he appeared at WrestleMania.
I think that if Sting appeared on Raw very week fans wouldn't get bored at all. Having Sting in the WWE is something that us fans have been dreaming of for years. It's pretty obvious that he'll be appearing at WrestleMania next year, but the question of course is who will he be facing?
Austin went on to ask about Vince's relationship with Jim Ross. 'There is no heat' he stated. He even stated that he wouldn't be surprised if they worked together again one day. Vince says how he helped get Ross to where he is as a wresting mind and that he paid his dues and worked really hard.
It's good to hear that Jim Ross and WWE are at good terms. I for one could still J.R returning one day to the WWE for a few one-off appearances.
Things ended with Austin asking if Vince listens to the WWE Universe. Vince says that the future is good for the WWE, saying how the WWE Network is a prime example of that. Austin brought up the idea of the WWE having a 'short attention span' audience nowadays. Vince agreed and said how he listens to the audience when he is in a live arena. Vince ended the interview saying that he is healthy and that he does listen to critics and the fans.
Good to hear that Vince is doing good. He sounds confident about the WWE's future. And listening to critics and fans is always a good thing.
Overall I feel that Austin asked Vince some real interesting questions. The fact that Vince is open to working with CM Punk again is good. And that the streak ending was all down to Vince and his thoughts on Cesaro were all interesting to hear about.

Plenty of History: McMahon and Austin's rivalry was a vital part of RAW prevailing in the Monday night wars. |
