The letdown of the main event
So to sum up, we had no main event match and the most popular weekly wrestling show in the world closed with a lunatic destroying a 46 year old mans light up jacket. I understand that they put that segment at the end of the show to try and make Jericho and Ambrose's rivalry seem more important but it didn't work. All people were talking about was the fact that Cass didn't get to compete in the main event. This should've gone on at the end of the second hour of the show instead of the six man tag team match between 'The Family' and 'The Club'. Speaking of those two teams... [next]
Roman Reigns could be doing his best work right now
I did have a few problems with last nights match however. The biggest problem was that it's the third time in seven days that we've seen this match. As much as a love Styles and 'The Club' I just was not all that interested. They should be facing other teams. That way they can still look strong while keeping this rivalry fresh. Also, Roman's superman like invincibility showed again last night. Not only did he eliminate Luke Gallows with a Superman Punch (He really needs to change his finishers before I take him seriously) He also laid out Gallows and Anderson with two rather lacklustre Spears, but the biggest irk I had was that WWE let the match go to a DQ finish rather than letting AJ pin Roman.
They really want to protect him but what they fail to see is that this is the reason that many people, including myself, do not like him. How am I supposed to cheer for a man who has no visible flaws? I can't get invested in that emotionally. [next]
Dana Brooke makes her RAW debut
Yes, you read that right, Dana Brooke made her debut on RAW. It's an interesting decision to say the least. Dana Brooke is not bad, however she is not of the level of some of the women on RAW right now. Brooke still needs time to Improve on NXT before people on RAW take her seriously.
The example I will put to you all is Tyler Breeze. A very talented man with a good gimmick and he was always near the NXT title, however he never won it. He then came up to the main roster and he has something along the lines of a 1-50 win loss record. Had Breeze won the NXT title then people, specifically Vince McMahon, would more likely have taken him seriously and he wouldn't be in this mess. I get the same feeling with Dana Brooke. If she was to have a run with the NXT title, especially after cheating to beat Asuka for it, the hierarchy on the main roster would see her as more important. This may be moot however. Maybe the WWE have big plans for Dana Brooke. [next]
Paige showed why she deserves more
You may not believe it but Paige is 23. She is also one of the best female competitors in the WWE so the fact that WWE have no idea what to do with her is astounding. Last night she went up against Charlotte and she proved again why she's so highly regarded by many people. The highlight of the match was a brilliantly executed superplex from the top rope. Of course Ric Flair had to come down to ringside and get involved like an old man who doesn't know where he is but that didn't detract from the fact that it was a very entertaining match. Top marks Paige. It should also be noted that this was the best match Charlotte has had since WrestleMania and she didn't have to rely on her father. Lets keep Ric Flair away from ringside please. RAW commentary makes me want to mute my TV
JBL, Michael Cole and Byron Saxton are not very good at commentary. This is evident every week on RAW but none more so this week. During a match with The Miz and Sami Zayn, a match which had Intercontinental Championship implications, there were points where the commentary trio had absolutely no interest in what was going on in the ring. Compare them to the SmackDown team. Mauro Ranallo has been such a breath of fresh air to the broadcast and alongside a heel Jerry Lawler they both do an excellent job. Even the NXT team are great. Corey Graves is perfect alongside Tom Phillips. If this really is a new era then WWE seriously need to change things up behind the commentary table. Even Renee Young, who proved she can do a great job as commentator on NXT could be a better option to what we have right now.
As much as we don't want to admit it, Extreme Rules is just going to be the same matches that we had at Payback. This doesn't mean they will be bad, not by a long shot. What it does mean however is that new rivalries won't start to develop for a couple of weeks. We also still have many injured people to returns such as Rollins, Cena and Orton as well as the impending 'debut' of one Finn Balor. All in all there are many reasons to be hopeful right now.
