I view this as a good showcase for Santa Cruz and the Showtime network. Airing at 10pm US Eastern time, it will likely be fan friendly.
There is no mystery to Kiko Martinez (35-6, 26 KO). He comes forward and brawls: squared up, head down, with an alternation of widely thrown hooks with both hands. Martinez is tough and heavy-handed, will beat ordinary competition, but is tailor-made for a superb boxer.
Santa Cruz (31-0-1, 17 KO) is recycled a similar style of opponent as Abner Mares, his last opponent, in Martinez. Mares, employing a straight brawling approach lacking any boxing finesse, lost almost every round to Santa Cruz – but he was crowd pleasing. It will be the same with Martinez, for Santa Cruz's lack of devastating power will see that it lasts to the end.
Santa Cruz will one-two his way to an easy decision. The crowd will like the bombs thrown by Martinez while he leaves his head exposed to get banged up.
Santa Cruz is defending his WBA Super World Featherweight title.
