Many could make a return and go on to amaze the WWE Universe once more, here, I list five gimmick matches that could be used more frequently.
Could resurging the iron match produce more iconic moments like these? Image: Online World of Wrestling |
In 2008 at the Unforgiven PPV we saw a very exciting and unpredictable match up debut in the WWE. It was used for three matches that night and all of the three World Championships were decided in that match up style.
The way the match works is that five Superstars compete in the match. Two start the match and every five minutes another Superstar enters the match. The entire match lasts for twenty minutes. Whenever a Superstar scores a pin or submission they are then the current Champion So the match starts as a one-on-one then it turns into a triple threat then a fatal four way and then a five pack challenge.
Back to when it debuted at Unforgiven in 08, Matt Hardy would capture the ECW Championship and Triple H would just retain his WWE Championship by one second! And then Chris Jericho would sneak his way in to win the World Championship. Then it was used once more at The Bash PPV in 2009 and WWE have not used it since.
I think that it is a fun match to watch. It is very unpredictable and it really gives the current Champion a real challenge when being involved in the match up. I think that WWE should use the Championship Scramble again as it was very popular when it was used and it is a great way to give the WWE Universe a real shocking Title change or show a Champions dominance.
Submission Match
Look at the current WWE Roster now and you see some great in-ring technicians. Names like Daniel Bryan, Seth Rollins and Dolph Ziggler would all benefit from competing in a Submission Match. Other names with signature submission holds like John Cena and Jack Swagger could also benefit from being involved in a Submission Match also.
The only way to win is to make your opponent tap out. There are disqualifications so anything goes. Over the years there have been some real classic Submission Matches and the most infamous one was back WrestleMania 13 when Stone Cold Steve Austin faced Bret Hart in a stellar classic where the final moments we saw a bloody Austin passing out from being locked in the Sharpshooter. Submission Matches really are classics and I believe that matches like Daniel Bryan vs. Dolph Ziggler or Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena being fought out in a Submission Match would amaze us WWE fans.
Tornado Tag Team Matches
The Tag Team Division in the WWE is currently pretty good. We have awesome teams like The Uso's, Cesaro and Tyson Kidd and The Ascension. Now I love a good tag team match but using more tornado tag stipulations would bring it even more sides to these great tag teams.
A Tornado Tag Team Match is basically when both members on each tag team compete throughout the whole match. So there is no need to tag in one-another in the match as you both compete at the same time. This can be used throughout many different match types like Ladder matches and Steel Cage matches. Some of the all time great ones include TLC and Steel Cage Tornado Tags between The Hardyz, Dudleys and Edge and Christian.
Teams like The Uso's and The Acension would be even more fun to watch in these stipulations. I mean when is the last time we saw a good Tornado Tag Ladder match? WWE please: use more Tornado Tag Team Matches!
Stretcher Match
There have only been a select handful of Stretcher Matches in WWE history. The way a Stretcher Match works is you have to beat your opponent so much so that they can be placed on a stretcher and pushed all the way to the top of the stage over the finish line. There are no disqualifications and even the stretcher itself can be used as a weapon.
The match concept was first used in the WWE back at Judgement Day 2003 when Brock Lesnar beat the Big Show. It was then used again back in 2005 when Kane and Edge faced off in a viscous and hard fought match. It was used twice in 2007 and 2009 and the most recent one was last Summer on Raw when John Cena beat Kane. I think that it is a great way to end personal rivalries and a good way to write a Super-Star out for while.
Iron Man Match
The Iron Man Match is one of WWE's most oldest matches but it is still one of the best. The match usually lasts for one whole hour or half-hour. Who ever gets the most victories in the amount of time is the winner. Even though is been around for so long there have only been nine in WWE history.
The Iron Man Match debuted back in 1996 at WrestleMania 12 when Bret Hart faced Shawn Michaels for the WWE Championship. The match would even go on to overtime as neither man scored a victory throughout the whole hour. Shawn Michaels would go on to win though and capture his first ever World Championship. Other classic include Triple H vs. The Rock from Judgement Day 2000 and Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar from Smackdown in September in 2003.
For me the only way to have a classc Iron Man Match is that both opponents need to have great chemistry otherwise it can be a real long boring match. Matches like John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan or Sami Zayn vs. Adrian Neville would be amazing in an Iron Match. For me bringing back the Iron Match would be a great move for the WWE.

So there are my five Gimmick Matches which I would like to see used more often in the WWE Let's hope WWE gives us a few more of those matches! Which other ones would you like to see? Comment below!
